Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty

Dear Colleagues:

Please find enclosed two letters which I have sent today in response to criticism of my actions as Personnel Committee Chair.

Normally, these letters would not be copied to the faculty. However, the present atmosphere of negativism among some members of our department leaves me no choice but to share with you these responses.

I am deeply distressed that some members of the faculty have attempted to call a meeting of the Personnel Committee without waiting for Dr. Gurol's complaint to the Office of Faculty Affairs to take its course. Robert's Rules of Order clearly states that "A committee has no power to punish its members for disorder or other improper conduct related to its proceedings, but should report the facts to the assembly."

Let's follow the rules. If there is a complaint by one of us against another, there are proper procedures to follow.

Sincerely yours,

Victor M. Ponce
Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering
