Arenas El Barbon
Good morning. We are here at El Barbón Wash, in the Ojos Negros valley, Baja California, México. Today is Sunday, November 18, 2012. We are observing the sand mining in this section of El Barbón Wash. On this site, mining has taken place approximately since the year 2000, that is, for the past 12 years. In this particular location, sand mining has taken place to a depth of 3 to 5 meters. It can be seen that the depth of sand mining has almost reached the water table. Additionally, we will see shortly how the removal of 3 to 5 meters of sand in this reach of El Barbón Wash has uncovered rock outcrops of the Tertiary Era.
In this reach, enough sand has been removed to reveal the rock outcrop
on the creek bed. As it can be seen,
the bedrock outcrops in this area, It is necessary to regulate the mining of sands in the washes of Baja California. One of the considerations should be to complete the sand mining project
and to return the washes and creeks to their natural condition existing prior to the development. As it is clearly seen in this case, this has yet to happen here.
