CIV E 530 - OPEN-CHANNEL HYDRAULICS
SPRING 2014
HOMEWORK No. 4

  1. Use ONLINE CHANNEL 14 to calculate the theoretical discharge over a broad crested weir of length L = 22 ft, when the total head above the weir crest is H = 1.2 ft.

  2. Use ONLINE CHANNEL 02 to calculate critical depth and velocity for the following cases:

    1. Q = 100 m3/s, b = 15 m, z = 2

    2. Q = 120 cfs, b = 40 ft, z = 2

    3. Q = 150 m3/s, b = 25 m, z = 1

    4. Q = 250 cfs, b = 80 ft, z = 1

  3. Use ONLINE CHANNEL 04 to calculate critical slope for the Cabana Canal data, with Q = 11 m3/s, b = 1.5 m, z = 1, So = 0.0006, and n = 0.013. Run ONLINE CHANNEL 04 again, this time using the calculated critical slope as input, to verify that it is indeed the critical slope.
